SUMMARY:
Neoclassicism began in the second half the eighteenth century. The arts during this time was to move a person's deepest feeling and to teach virtue. The artists imitated the ancient Romans and Greeks because they believed that art should serve the nation and do good for the people. The artists during this time used their paintings to show serious subjects such as the death of Socrates. Jacques Louis David was the leading artist of Neoclassicism.
